This is back in ’89 when Scheff was first with the group. He had mediocre but passable vocals. He’s steadily gone downhill since. Recent performances are UNLISTENABLE. Fortunatley Champlin is gone. Now if only Scheff would follow suit. They should be a little more discriminating the next time they audition a lead. Rumors of Lamm losing interest and Parazider’s health problems, I can’t help but wonder if they won’t disband soon.

At 2:45 Scheff has to go to his falsetto voice to hit the high notes. Heck, Bailey should have sung this lead. He’s got the range, style and then some. Scheff always sounds so nasal. Yes – a great song – but sadly, lousy vocals.

I don’t know what Jason or the sound man did differently on this night, but this might be the best vocal performance of the Jason Scheff era of Chicago…I’d love to have this whole concert on DVD…which is something I never thought I’d see myself type!!
