The chicago Spire is currently under construction in Chicago, Illinois. It will be completed sometime around 2010. The building will be 2000 feet or 610 m tall with 150 floors which would make it some 550 feet taller than Chicago’s own Sears Tower. It will also be the tallest free-standing structure in North America, and the second tallest structure in the world behind Burj Dubai ever build by man.

I wish they wouldn’t put this off. This is such a historic building. Yes, in Dubai there is a 2700 ft tall building, but they use cheap foreign labor, foreign architects, land is about one third as cheap, and it put them in debt a couple billion dollars.

Well i have to say it’s about time they build something worth looking at in America. Everything’s a tall fucking rectangle. Even the Sears Tower is pussy….. And forgive me regarding the twin towers but holy jesus christ were those things ugly. It’s better they came down. They should have built this thing in place of the two towers. Though… all of NY will be under water in a decade or so anyway so who the fvck cares…

@hhhrolling, that Mercer survey was only based on the quality of living with gobal cities of any population, while Top 29: Best Cities To Live In – 2009 edition rated major global cities larger then a million people based on 2009 liveability,Sports & Entertainment,Culture,Fashion,Health,Power & Money,Dating & Sex and the Good Life. Thats why you only see MAJOR GLOBAL CITIES on there list. Chicago literally has everything these small cities u listed have & it has what other cities lack.
