Vivekananda explains the gist of Hinduism by quoting a sloka from “Baghavad Gita”. In fact that also explains the concept of Universal acceptance of all religion. From an audio release, about the Life and Works of Swami Vivekananda. Though it is not the actual voice of Vivekananda, we can feel the power of his thoughts on Hinduism, and his respect for other religions.

The word “Hindu” arose from the Persians not Arabs. They identified their neighbors living on the banks of the Sindhu river by that name, but mispronounced “S” as “H” and that’s how the word “Hindu” came about.

Actually this fact is wrong, dear prakashaaaa. It is in fact the other way around: the word “Hindustan” has come from the word “Hindu”, which itself has an Arabic origin.
Cheers.

Similar is the case with religion. The Christian is not to become a Hindu or a Buddhist, nor a Hindu or a Buddhist to become a Christian. But each must assimilate the spirit of the others and yet preserve his individuality and grow according to his own law of growth.// This contradicts his concluding speac about the frog in the well.
Hope we will be able to understand.

Yes Hindu comes from the old name of India, Hindustan. Just as people from England are termed English so people of Hindustan came to be called Hindus. There are many sects of Hindus. HTH
