  • Bulls vs. Bullets: Jordan 47pts (LaBradford Smith Game)

March 19, 1993. Jordan was having a very bad shooting night against the Bullets. Washington had taken a 90-89 lead 5 minutes to play in the game when Jordan scored the next 11 Bulls points in this final stretch as they managed to win the game 104- 99. But despite the win, Jordan was very unhappy with his own performance, mainly because LaBradford Smith, who was shooting 58 percent (42 for 72) in his last five games, scored 37 points. The teams were scheduled to play again just 24 hours later, this time in Washington. In the post game interviews Jordan said, “That was a very embarrassing situation for me,. Evidently I didn’t respect the guy and he’s certainly capable of putting up some numbers, and he did. Offensively, it wasn’t going for me and I let that effect my defensive effort and that’s something I will improve on {Saturday}. I look forward to the challenge”. According to some journalists close to the team, he also promised to score 37 points, LaBradford’s total, in the first half of the next game. And, he keeps his promise. Almost. He starts the game with amazing intensity and hits all of his first 8 shots from the field. When he sits down on the bench 3:15 to go in the first quarter, he already has 19 pts, 4rbs, 2 stls. With just 3 seconds remaining in the second quarter, he’s at the foul line to shoot two with 35 points. Misses the second one and finishes the half with 36 points. What’s even more impressive is that he plays lockdown defense on Smith who goes only

Maybe it was the grueling seven-game series they had just finished against the Pacers. For some reason, the Bulls didn’t seem to have the energy in this game. Though they only lost by three, 88-85 in overtime, chicago didn’t have its usual fire. Michael Jordan scored 33 points on 13 of 29 shooting. Scottie Pippen added 21 and Luc Longley scored 10. John Stockton led the Jazz with 24 points, while Karl Malone added 21. The Jazz took a 1-0 series lead in the 1998 NBA Finals.

24 April 1992 The first game of the 1992 playoffs. This was Miami’s first playoff experience and they were determined to make some noise. They started the game with a lot of energy and looked very promising. But that was until Jordan decided to take over. It was total domination. After three quarters Jordan had 42/8/6 with some steals and a block. The Bulls having a comfortable lead, he shot only three times in the final quarter. Finished with 46/11/9/3stl/1 blk on 21/34 shooting. Went to the line only 4 times. Hoops has the third game of this series where Jordan scores 56 in Miami. Post game notes & quotes ======================== CHICAGO (AP) — These are the playoffs, also known as Michael Jordan time. “I told you this is what I’ve been waiting for. I’ve been excited all week. This is fun time,” Jordan said Friday night after scoring 46 points as chicago began defense of its NBA championship with a 113-94 victory over Miami. Showing no ill effects from the back spasms that bothered him earlier in the week, Jordan scored 15 points in the second quarter when the Bulls went ahead to stay, and 15 more in the third quarter when they pulled away to an 87-73 lead. Jordan also had 11 rebounds and nine assists. “He was keyed up, this is his special time of the season,” coach Phil Jackson said. “He was anxious to get started and he made a great statement.” Jackson blamed the Bulls’ slow start on being “very nervous — no, very anxious.” “The suspense of the playoffs was laboring

Just a good time here with MJ shooting 74% for 40pts for the second highest All-Star scoring game in history (Wilt has 42). MJ with his standard proclivity for spectacular improvisation around the rim was in full view here. No more words are necessary for this one.

Chicago Bulls @ New York Knicks | 1993 Playoffs | ECF Game 1: Welcome to the Jungle

Guarding Michael Jordan during a playoff game intimidates some players. It inspired John Starks. Crushing Chicago’s spirit with his 3-point shooting and giving Jordan fits with his defense, Starks led New York to a 98-90 victory in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference championship series yesterday afternoon at Madison Square Garden. It was a significant victory for the Knicks, who were determined not to lose the home-court advantage they had worked all season to attain. They won their 26th consecutive home game using the same formula that has worked all season — suffocating defense, dominating rebounding and timely shooting. Jordan (27 points) shot a dismal 10 for 27 from the field, including 2 for 9 during the final period, the time when Jordan usually dominates. It was also a significant defeat for chicago, which had won seven straight playoff games this season. Starks (25 points) was magnificent, setting a Knick playoff record by making five 3-point shots. Three of them came during a five-minute fourth-quarter barrage that helped the Knicks build an 88-79 lead with four minutes to play, a lead they never lost. Everyone expected the Starks-versus-Jordan battle to be a major factor in the series. Round 1 went to Starks. “I don’t even remember when Starks was in the CBA, and I don’t remember when he first came into the league,” said Jordan, referring to the minor league Continental Basketball Association. “But I know he’s here now.” And Starks had plenty of help.
