With a 3-1 series lead, the chicago Bulls looked primed to win their sixth championship on their home court. But Utah’s Karl Malone had other ideas. Malone hit 17 of 27 shots for a game-high 39 points and led the Jazz to a tight 83-81 win. Michael Jordan scored 28 points, but hit just 9 of 26 shots. Toni Kucoc led the Bulls with 30 points on 11 of 13 shooting. No other Bull scored in double figures. Scottie Pippen scored just 6 points on 2 of 16 shooting. The Jazz win forced a sixth game back in Utah. NOTE: My DVD cut off just before the end of the game. Sorry about the abrupt ending.

This game was played on Jan. 25, 1998. Utah beat chicago 101-94. Michael Jordan scored 32 points, two of which came on a nasty dunk on Jazz center Greg Ostertag in the fourth quarter. Enjoy.
The Utah Jazz looked fresh and re-energized playing in front of their home crowd at the Delta Center in game 3 of the 1997 Finals. Behind 37 points from the MVP Karl Malone, the Jazz beat chicago 104-93. Greg Foster had a huge game, finishing with 17 points. John Stockton also scored 17 and added 12 assists. Scottie Pippen paced the Bulls with 27 points, while Michael Jordan added 26. (Michael Buffer never gets old.)
Maybe it was the grueling seven-game series they had just finished against the Pacers. For some reason, the Bulls didn’t seem to have the energy in this game. Though they only lost by three, 88-85 in overtime, chicago didn’t have its usual fire. Michael Jordan scored 33 points on 13 of 29 shooting. Scottie Pippen added 21 and Luc Longley scored 10. John Stockton led the Jazz with 24 points, while Karl Malone added 21. The Jazz took a 1-0 series lead in the 1998 NBA Finals.
Led by a determined and aggressive Michael Jordan, the Chicago Bulls defeated in the New York Knicks, 110-81, in game seven of the 1992 eastern conference semifinals. Jordan scored 42 points in 42 minutes played. Scottie Pippen added 17 for chicago. The Bulls’ win ended what was one of the most physical and memorable playoffs series in NBA history.
It was the way Michael Jordan kept hitting his shots as the Knicks kept hitting flesh. And it was obvious that no matter what the circumstances, the color of this rivalry had not faded without Patrick Ewing. The evidence spilled onto the floor at Madison Square Garden last night as each Knick who was fed up with the prickly Dennis Rodman shoved, tripped or barked at him. Pick one, Larry Johnson, John Starks or Charles Oakley. The trio displayed the kind of anger and aggression that provided the only chance the Knicks had to beat Jordan. And yet, just as Jordan has done throughout his career, he ruined the best group effort by the Knicks, gathering a remarkable 44 points as the Bulls won, 90-89. “I thought we had tremendous effort,” Knicks Coach Jeff Van Gundy said. “We were beaten by a championship-caliber team, by the greatest player ever probably. We had our opportunities.” The victory was not assured until Chris Childs missed a 3-pointer just before the buzzer as the Knicks declined to call a timeout to set up a final play. “I would have gone inside, but I didn’t think I would have gotten the call,” Childs said. “I thought the shot I took was good. It just didn’t go in this time.” Suddenly, the additions the Knicks have made to surround Ewing with complementary players were on the spot against chicago last night. More attention was on Houston, though. He had Jordan, but Jordan got the best of him in the second half. “I don’t think I got the job done in the second half …
This early regular season game between chicago and LA was seen as a part of the Bulls’ farewell tour, given their age and the time they had already spent together. Pippen was out for months and to make matters worse, sharp shooter Steve Kerr received an injury too. And from the start of the first quarter the Bulls looked very old indeed. Uncharacteristic mistakes and a terrible percentage from the field gave the Clippers an early lead. Jordan had a lot of problems with his shot release because of the dislocated finger, noticeable especially at the freethrow line. Despite a great game by Longley the Clippers led 27-14 after the 1st quarter. But the Bulls showed pride. They got back into the game with their defense and started a 18-3 scoring run to erase the Clippers’ big lead. At the end of a hard-fought 4th quarter, Barry hit two huge freethrows to tie the game at 92-92 with 10 seconds to go. A lot of time for Jordan to work his magic, but he missed at the buzzer and the game went into the first of two overtimes. The Clippers looked a bit fresher and got a four point lead with 40 seconds to go, but Jordan made two baskets to tie the game again at 102-102 and forced a second overtime. He then completely took over and scored all 9 Bulls points in the 2nd overtime. Overall he scored the last 13 points in the game, unanswered by the Clippers who couldn’t buy a basket and went scoreless on Jordan’s run. While the 34-year-old Jordan looked sharper as the game progressed, the …
The first game in the New Year between Milwaukee (14-15) and chicago (20-10) was one of those “fun games” with lots of crowd-pleasing moments. Michael Jordan and Glenn “Big Dawg” Robinson were on fire for the whole game, both scored 44 points apiece (Jordan 15-22, Robinson 18-30 from the field) and made a lot of great plays. Jordan in particular was phenomenal. He brought his vintage game – fadeaways, alley-oops, reverse layups, coast-to-coast plays – you name it. He had the fans on their feet all game long with his spectacular play, only a month before his 35th birthday. His teammates were also great, especially Longley and Rodman. Luc had almost a triple double (24 pts, 9 rbs, 8 ast) while Rodman stole the show in the last minutes. Not with his rebounding or defense, although he had 21 rebounds in this game. “The Menace” went crazy on 3-pointers. “Taco-Dennis” hit a couple of threes, rolled the score up to 114-100 and in doing so gave the jubilant crowd a round of free tacos.
